1995 Avalon engine survives uprooted tree crash
Submitted By: Bert M. - Providence, RI
As I was preparing to leave my house to drive to see a friend on a severe windy night in March 2006, I felt the house shudder tremendously, I heard its windows rattle violently, and then I heard my car alarm blare. Since I had parked my car on the street and I was ready to leave the house anyway, all I had to do, I thought, was turn the key to reset the alarm. Little did I realize the disaster that had befallen my 1995 Toyota Avalon.
After my ownership of eight years and 167,000 miles, my decision to buy another Avalon was made for me by a wind uprooted tree. The driver???s side roof was completely crushed. Seeing the damage, the police advised me to call AAA; thus avoiding higher towing fees. But, the policeman didnt realize my car was a Toyota Avalon. After the tree cutters cleared the debris, I cleared away broken glass and hopped in from the passengers side. To fit in the drivers side, I reclined the driver???s seat to about a 130 degrees or so. I turned the key and the engine started on the first turn. Since the accident happened on the street side opposite my house, I easily crossed the street, turning the car into my garage. As I drove by the police car I heard someone yell, Boy that would make a great car commercial.
Now I own a 2004 Toyota Avalon and I am certain I will have the same great performance from it as well!
